Vampire:Theme
From Metro Wiki
Our goal for the Vampire sphere in 2.0 was to make it a significantly darker game much more like V:tM was originally written in the WoD canon. Under the backdrop of the classic gothic-punk environment, hope dwindles for humanity and undead creatures wrestle nightly with the beast which rages within each and every one of them.
Some have abandoned humanity completely; these precious few might be the
luckiest. Those who attempt to maintain any semblance of it find it incredibly
futile in some cases. The Jyhad is unrelenting and unforgiving. The world is
degenerating. The streets get a bit dimmer with every passing night, like a
cancer that slowly eats it out from within. For some, redemption is a foregone
conclusion. For some Cainites, the years that tick by bring only more death
and destruction. Perhaps kindred truly are damned. And power? Power serves to
stave off damnation in the short term. Ah, now there's the rub. Power. The
elixir of the gods; a soul-stirring aphrodisiac that mimics the life that the
kindred suck out of kine for their sustenance. It's not redemption, it's not
an answer, but it's like a cold glass of bourbon to a mortal. It cuts you off;
it masks the realization that you might very well be a monster.
It seems there's no lack of kindred who want power.
The kindred of Toronto are no strangers to strife and chaos. The
Camarilla have staved off two major incursions by the Sabbat in recent
history, and have held this city despite the fact that every other major
metropolitan area within a reasonable distance has fallen at the hands of
Caine's "chosen". Each incursion is a bloody event, but it always ends up with
the same conclusion. The Camarilla suffers, fights, and prevails. The Sabbat
strikes fiercely and retreats. Toronto's a fortress amongst enemy territory.
The Sabbat chips away at it, and the Camarilla rebuilds. Such has been the way
it's gone for years now.
As of late, though, the Camarilla in Toronto has been experiencing a slow
decline. Political unrest is growing, and certain kindred are seeming to
forget the days when they had to stand together against an imminent threat.
Infighting is becoming more common, and corruption is springing up left and
right. They're stumbling a bit, but they haven't fallen.
The Sabbat, meanwhile, are restless. The predators can't afford to act
like animals and rely on their brute force to recapture the city, and so
they're left to devising new ways to gain an inroad into a city which is a
monumental prize while the sect pushes most of its troops into cities they're
fighting to keep. Those few who are here are sick and tired of watching as the
status quo remains in effect. Their leaders, meanwhile, are no longer tolerant
of failure within Toronto.
Those caught in the middle can find their loyalties split. The city's
Anarchs grow more restless by the day, demanding that the Camarilla machine be
shut down while trying to fend off the fanatics of its rival sect. Those who
claim Independence are finding it harder and harder to remain truly neutral in
the city's vampiric affairs. Those Independent parties who are truly
opportunistic may see the slowly deteriorating city as the perfect staging
ground to reap some rewards for their own causes.
