"The Coder's Guide to the Camarilla Status Code"

by Shallow (not the coder, but the concept designer)

There are multiple levels to the Camarilla Status code. I'll describe some of the basics to you and let yu know how the code is intended to be used. Firstly, this is intended to be code that adds to roleplay and entertainment; its meaning is that of a suppliment, not replacement.

This can all certainly be overwhelming. Please see this example for a more simplified rundown.

The Basics

Status: This is what displays on your +sheet as "Cam-Status". This is the 'permanent' rating in status that a character possesses. It isn't going away easy and its not going up easy. Often this rating will not change through the course of the game except through very large and critical events. This is the first rating in the "1/100" display.

Favor: This rating is a flutuating, day-to-day, freeform idea of where a character stands. Someone with a negative rating is probably falling out of favor or viewed as something of an outcast. Someone with a positive rating is in good favor (or buying the approval of other with face-time or gifts). In either direction, from -100 to 100, extreme ratings are likely a clear sign of this character's place in Camarilla society. This is the second rating in the "1/100" display.

What do Status and Favor really mean?
What can Status and Favor do for me?

What reputation it means

It behooves a Neonate with a reflected rating of "1/20" to not get under the skin of the Elders, even if that elder is rated at "3/-80". The Elder will have more overall push in the Camarilla, more clout if you will, to ruin the reputation of the Neonate in question with an application of pressure, personal status, and outright authority. However, in a game where Princes rule, an Elder with the aforementioned "3/-80" will most likely find that Prince paying less attention to his voice than that of another Elder with "3/50" if that Prince wishes to maintain his position through anything but brute force. The Camarilla is often a very large game of popularity and brutality.

Reputation: Reputations are those things a character makes for himself or earns through actions. These reputations may also make you "Notorious". Differing from Favor in that Reputation is always a positive number, each of these positive numbers is associated with a specific Reputation. For example, if your Brujah character earns a reputation of always being a jerk to women, it may show "Tim is a rude chauvinist." If this reputation is at 1? Its easy to fight off, a single vote from you can remove it. If it has reached a point where many agree and have put their voice behind it, however, it could have some staying power at 50 or more points invested.

Again, Reputations can be both good and bad. Some of these will be automatically set by staff, such as those relating to "Infamous Sire" or the "Reputation" merit; most reputations will be set by other players for things that happen IC. These must be made in the form of short statements! Single words will be removed immediately as they bear a similarity to White Wolf's "Mind's Eye Theatre" status traits and this may not be used on MUSHes.

What can Reputation be used for?

How to know

+status/favor: This display is a "heads up" of the general flow of status. Displayed by this command is a 'chart' that will shw who is voting and what kind of points are getting spent. This may be considered, IC, to be the general 'harpy chatter'. Who is talking about who, who is putting support behind whom, and who is talking about the reputations of the Kindred. Displayed on this chart will not only be these general rumors, but also your own status and favor (as they currently stand), the number of current and total votes you have available, when the last weekly recycle of votes was done by the code (WR), and what your status was at when that recycle happened (AtWR). This is intended to be a helpful, quick reference.

On the +status/favor the name "Someone" may be noticed. This means that someone has used their status to support or show disapproval of someone while keeping their own name out of the rumors. Let's face it, Vampires are dangerous little blighters and don't always like to do their stabbing on the front of the body. While you can hide who it is you're voting for or against it takes a lot more of your clout to do so - now you are not only bolstering or putting someone down but also keepin the harpies quiet about it.

It is also possible to protect someone using your status. If you are willing to put your name behind someone, perhaps your Childe, the "+status/protect <name>" command will allow you to do so. In this instance, when someone votes against the targetted person, your votes are removed instead until you no longer have any votes left. If you run out of votes from protecting someone, their favor begins to drop again. Of course, putting your weight behind someone lowers your own ability to throw your weight around overall - at least until the weekly reset.

The Resource

Votes: Votes are determined by two factors. First, the basic formula is (Cam-Status x 2)+Title. In this manner, titles held by the character can grant that character more 'clout' in the system. The Prince, for example, gains an automatic 5 extra while Primogen gain 3 as well. Other titles, such as Scenechal and Sheriff may also add extra votes. These votes are set by staff depending on the title(s) in question. Clearly, this gives a major advantage to the Eldest among you. No, sorry, they don't stack.

Votes can be spent in whatever way you wish. There should be an IC reason for spending them, but you can spend them at any time of the week you want, for or against who you want, and toward whatever reputations you want. You can let them go unused or you can blow them in one command. You can even sell them for favors IC if that's what you're into (Nobody says the Nosferatu wont speak highly of you in exchange for favors). The only real patrolling that will be done by Staff on voting is when players are either abusing the system by not engaging in RP and just logging in to spend their votes up every week or when Reputations are set incorrectly or are not 'in theme'. "Tim's player is a jerk." is a sure way to get your access to the code revoked.

Right away, this system may seem to place a lot of power into the hands of the few. Yes, you're right, it does. Elders, especially those who reach Cam-Status 4 and 5, stand head and shoulders over a poor, lowly neonate. Welcome, my friends, to the Camarilla. Never let it be said that plebians in large groups can't topple the average patrician.
