Description

A corner Mom and Pop Restaurant with large glass windows. A bright yellow awning runs the length of the building and the entrance is on the corner The sign proclaiming the name of the diner is on the corner, above the awning over the entrance. It is a three story, old brick building.

History

Mama Bea's is a neighborhood favorite and has been for a quarter century. Here in Toronto you won't find better Italian food outside of Little Italy. Beatrice Alighieri, Mama Bea, a matronly Italian woman in her mid forties, is well known to the neighborhood, and many neighborhood youths find their first jobs here either doing dishes in the back or waiting tables.

Notable Events

  • November 20, 2000: A group of four armed brothers had attempted to hold up Mama Bea's restaurant, demanding money and food from the patrons. Not long after they had started, their leader, 'Joey Carmick' fired his pistol in an attempt to scare the wait staff. Police, tipped off by an anonymous call about gunfire, quickly responded and managed to capture all four men without further incident.
