ANCESTOR OF THE COURT

The Ancestor of any given Court is a figure of supreme authority and respect. Chosen through a painstaking process of consultation between the Court's Mandarin, and sometimes even other Mandarin and Ancestors from larger Courts, if such ties exist, once an Ancestor is chosen, he is rarely overthrown or defied. He is a figure of not only temporal power, but an icon of the accumulated wisdom and knowledge of the Court. The Ancestor of the Court never deals directly with outside organizations, instead acting through the Voice of the Ancestor in these regards.

THE VOICE OF THE ANCESTOR

The Voice of the Ancestor fills in for the Ancestor of the Court when they are unavailable. They are to be the Ancestor of the Court's closest adviser, as well as the face of the court to ambassadors who wish to meet with the court's highest authority.

ANCESTRAL GUARDIAN

The Ancestral Guardian responsible for the safety and well-being of the Ancestor of the Court. While the Minister of War guards against threats to the Court and the Warden of Night watches for trouble within the Court, the Ancestral Guardian is only responsible for threats against the Ancestor of the Court. At times, the Ancestral Guardian will mete out punishments on behalf of the Ancestor of the Court.

MINISTER OF WAR

The Minister of War is charged with formulating the strategies necessary to protect the court from its enemies. This includes creating the necessary strategies to deal with rival shen groups as well as dealing with the pressing matter of akuma. The Minister of War is also responsible with the stockpile of necessary strategic resources, and with ensuring that the members of the court are tasked with at least some measure of what they can do to protect the court.

MINISTER OF INTELLIGENCE

The Minister of Intelligence is charged with directing matters dealing with a range of topics, from financially related to espionage, and everything in between. They keep track of the current events in the city, both mundane and occult, and act in accordance with the other ministers and the ancestor to formulate the direction which the court wishes to take in these affairs. They also direct any diplomatic matters in the Voice of the Ancestor's absence. In matters of internal intelligence, he holds the responsibility for ferreting out Akuma and those who may threaten the Ancestor, the Court, and its stability.

MINISTER OF MEMORIES

The Minister of Memories is responsible for keeping the history of the court. Additionally, they are responsible for maintaining the court's library. The Minister of Memories also tends to the educational needs of the disciples, although this task is often delegated to jina to actually disperse the actual knowledge.

WARDEN OF THE NIGHT

The Warden of the Night is officially charged with dealing with internal conflicts of the court. They make sure that the edicts of the court are carried out, and mediate disputes between kuei-jin. They are further charged with watching for signs of akuma activity within the court itself. In recent years, the Warden of the Night's position has come to include duties involving acting as the go between for the court and other shen. The Warden of the Night is allowed to mete out justice upon those who have broken the court's rules.

FIRST ONI

The First Oni is the kuei-jin with the greatest p'o. They are a terrifying individual as they are as close to their inner demon as they possibly can be. The First Oni is charged with teaching disciples how to control their p'o, often through scaring the disciple's p'o into submission. Apart from training, the First Oni is often consulted on matters of the p'o in general and in matters of punishment. The First Oni generally reports to the Minister of War.

COURT ARCHIVIST

The Court Archivist is in charge of keeping court records and archives. He aids the Minister of Memory in keeping the library in order. Furthermore, he is available to track down specific records of matters for the members of the court. The Court Archivist reports to the Minister of Memory.

MASTER OF RITES

The Master of Rites is responsible for leading any rituals which the court might require. They work with the Minister of Memories to make sure that the appropriate texts are available in the court library. The Master of Rites further serves the unofficial role of arbitrating Twilight and Midnight Wars. Often etiquette of the Court is also overseen by the Master of Rites as well. Sessions of Court are usually started and ended by the Master of Rites sounding the gong. The Master of Rites works to research and uncover new rites as well as ancient and lost rites of the kuei-jin. The Master of Rites frequently works closely with the Master of Omens. The Master of Rites officially reports to the Minister of Memories.

MASTER OF OMENS

The Master of Omens is often considered the sage of the Court. They are responsible for reading the stars. They are further responsible for uncovering the secrets and mysteries of the mortal world, the Shadowlands and Umbra. The Master of Omens focuses his attentions foremost on questions of the metaphysical. The Master of Omens is responsible for acquiring lost relics and ancient scrolls of the kuei-jin. He is further permitted research into the Yama Kings, though always with careful consultation with the Ministers of the Court. The Master of Omens reports to the Minister of Memory.

COURT BENEFACTOR

Court Benefactor is the title given to all kuei-jin and dhampyrs who are official members of the court. Court benefactors have no specific responsibilities, but are expected to follow the guidelines of the court and work for the benefit of the Asian population of Toronto in general.
